É claro que não se pode, nem se pretende, negar a importância do estudo e da aprendizagem na formação do gerente e no aperfeiçoamento da sua prática. Hoje em dia, com a aceleração das mudanças impulsionadas pela revolução das informações, mais do que sempre ocorreu antes, aprender é uma questão de sobrevivência empresarial e gerencial. Daí, a importância dos cursos de formação, reciclagem e especialização. Mas não se deve ter a ilusão de que aí se vai aprender a gerenciar sem o complemento da experiência.
O que realmente conta quando a questão é aprendizado gerencial é a reflexão sobre a prática cotidiana do gerenciamento. Um curso, um seminário, um livro, um artigo, um vídeo, seja lá o que for, ajuda pouco se não puder ser confrontado com a prática real. Se não puder ser objeto de discussão e reflexão do caso real vivido.
“O marketing é um jogo empírico. Você toma uma decisão, observa os resultados, aprende com eles e depois toma decisões melhores. Em princípio, aqueles que praticam o marketing há mais tempo e aprenderam mais com seus erros são os melhores profissionais da área.”
Philip Kotler em “Marketing para o Século XXI – Como Criar, Conquistar e Dominar Mercados”, Editora Futura, São Paulo, 1999
Essa afirmação de Kotler a respeito da prática do marketing também pode aplicar-se, como se feita sob medida, a qualquer outro campo da gestão. Incontáveis vezes decisões têm que ser tomadas sem muita certeza, sem conhecimento bem estabelecido. Aquilo que noutros campos de atuação poderia ser chamado de inconseqüência (fazer ou decidir sem ter certeza), no campo do gerenciamento é fenômeno cotidiano. O gerente corre riscos e isso é inevitável. O que é possível usar a favor do conhecimento ordenado é observar as conseqüências da decisão, acompanhar os resultados, corrigir em tempo o que se revela inadequado e, prova de sabedoria, assumir os erros, aprendendo com eles.
Aprender com o erro tem um significado fundamental para que um gerente se possa tornar “um dos melhores profissionais da área”, na expressão de Kotler. Representa ter tido coragem de ousar, de inventar, de tentar. Significa ter autoconfiança para assumir o erro, ouvir críticas e responder pelas conseqüências. Significa, ainda, ter capacidade de usar o conhecimento adquirido e, mais, ter entusiasmo para tentar de novo. Aprender sempre é desaprender, sem perder, as crenças e reaprender para continuar apostando no futuro.
O colégio ajuda se puder ser usado como local de facilitação desse aprendizado. Se não, tem muito pouca utilidade e pode atrapalhar mais do que ajudar.
